"Corona de Plumas" is built in layers. Wrapped sticks have appeared in Deborah's work for many years and in this piece, they define the center. Long tail feathers cascade down the center of the piece. The feathers are all made from recycled plastic, hand screen printed with images of endangered birds and overprinted with text in endangered languages as well as excerpts of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring which inspired Kruger to become an environmental artist.

VMOTA's Permanent Collection serves as a reflection of our values, an opportunity to foster connections between past and present, and as a resource for understanding history, art, and culture. We are honored to welcome this piece into our collection through the generosity of an anonymous benefactor.

We are happy to share that "Corona de Plumas" by @deborahkrugerstudios will be on display on August 7th from 5-7:30pm in conjunction with @artsdistrictlibertystation First Friday.

Visions Museum of Textile Art is exploring a new Young Professionals initiative designed to connect emerging creatives, artists, makers, educators, museum and nonprofit professionals, students, and community members through textile art, creativity, and cultural engagement.

To help shape the program, VMOTA is inviting the community to complete a brief 5–10 minute survey focused on networking, professional development, creative programming, hands-on experiences, and community-building. Feedback will help ensure the initiative reflects the interests and needs of San Diego's creative community without duplicating existing efforts.

🎫 Complete the survey by 7/31/26 to be entered into our raffle for a free one-year museum membership!

When you enter the Dr. Sandra Ann Edwin Gallery at @visionsmuseum, Marita Setas Ferro’s textile sculptures illuminate the dimly lit space. Ambient music composed by Ana Nadais, a Master of Music Performance and Marita’s own daughter, fills the room with crashing waves and delicate harp strings. Visitors are invited to touch these sculptures that invite proximity and embodied response, allowing tactility, softness, and vulnerability to operate as forms of knowledge. You won’t want to miss this immersive, sensorial exhibition: “Soft Architectures of the Sea” by @maritaferro.

Financial support is provided by the City of San Diego. VMOTA is also supported in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency.
Quilts Japan: The 17th Quilt Nihon features 39 award-winning quilts from the biennial competition of the Japanese Handicraft Instructor's Association (@jhia_org). In this exhibition, visitors have the chance to see traditional and modern quilts. JHIA defines traditional quilts as those that are inspired and based on traditional ideas, while contemporary quilts demonstrate originality and independent ideas. Parallels can be drawn between traditional Japanese quilts and traditional American quilting practices, including thick borders and designs structured by blocks.

Come see them in person from now until October 10th at @visionsmuseum in @artsdistrictlibertystation.
