Kanoko is a repetitive Japanese pattern that consists of dyeing the fabric after knotting it meticulously before soaking. The pattern’s name is derived from its resemblance to the spots found on the back of a fawn. In Gai Teresa’s “RED ON RED ON RED”, small rings of pink and red embroidery thread are reminiscent of this technique, though they are created with thread rather than the dyeing process.*

Quilts Japan: The 17th Quilt Nihon 
This exhibit features extraordinary and innovative works from the biennial competition of the Japanese Handicraft Instructor's Association (JHIA). This West Coast debut is the last stop before the exhibition heads back to Japan, making it a rare opportunity to see award-winning pieces from this prestigious competition. 

On Display in the Camille and Vanessa Gallery and Gallery 2 (Naming Opportunity Available) at Visions Museum of Textile Art.

Soft Architectures of the Sea by Marita Setas Ferro

This exhibition presents interactive textile sculptures as material reflections on marine ecosystems, care, and environmental precarity. Visitors are invited to touch these sculptures that invite proximity and embodied response, allowing tactility, softness, and vulnerability to operate as forms of knowledge. We encourage you to touch, reflect upon, and appreciate these meticulous artworks by Marita Setas Ferro.

This exhibit will take place in VMOTA's Dr. Sandra Ann Edwin Gallery.

In this exhibit, McCabe’s fine art quilts depict memories of her experiences visiting Guatemala Highlands, highlighting the perspective of a visitor from one culture visiting another culture. The rich textile traditions of Guatemala, originating largely from its many indigenous communities, are incorporated into these artworks that you won't want to miss!
