Tea Bag Revival with Libby Williamson

The lowly tea bag, when dried and emptied, becomes the foundation for a precious piece of art.

Libby Williamson, an artist in Quilt Visions 2020, 2022, and 2026, will lead a tea bag revival workshop centered on sustainable creativity — a pillar in the textile arts. Tea bag revival is popular among quilters and sold out immediately at Empty Spools 2027.

Each tea bag will be enhanced using hand-painted papers provided. Realistic or abstract shapes cut from these materials are collaged to the separate tea bags. The addition of free-motion machine sewing and/or hand stitching will add lovely details. Then the individual tea bags will be arranged and attached to a fabric background.

Libby will discuss different techniques for mounting your work onto a backing fabric or stretched canvas, which you can complete after class. The finished artworks measure approximately 12” x 14” but the final dimensions are flexible and can be customized.

VMOTA Members Workshop Fee: $120.  Non-Members Workshop Fee: $135. Check back for opening dates for registration.

Materials: All materials will be provided, though each participant is encouraged to bring an apron.
