ARTIST STATEMENT

This piece was started by drawing the ground plan of an ancient building. As the red round city map found its place, I felt it needed some off-white patch in the middle. When it took shape, the red circle reminded me of a no-entry traffic sign. That’s how it became “Forbidden City.”

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Cotton, drawn hanji paper, and felt.

Layered, fused, and machine-stitched.
