ARTIST STATEMENT
“Black Girl Magic” celebrates African hair. As a teacher, I was always so impressed by the artistry and beauty of the many styles girls of African descent would wear to school. I learned from their mothers how much time and care went into the styles and also that it required hours of sitting together as the braiding and beading would get done. My piece celebrates the beauty and love that goes into each style.
