ARTIST STATEMENT
Spinning and swirling, powered by the wind. A garden ornament, weathervane and deer deterrent, is frequently enjoyed by young children (and older ones too) who are wide-eyed with fascination and curiosity.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Commercial and hand-dyed cotton, cotton thread, and silk batting.
Working intuitively, I use the rotary cutter to create shapes with fabric, place them on the design wall, step back, rearrange, sew bits together, step back again, and repeat until the composition is complete. It is an iterative process using the straight stitch machine and my imagination. Once the composition is complete, narrow lines add texture to the final piece.
