Welcome
Welcome to Visions Museum of Textile Art!
At Visions Museum of Textile Art, our focus is contemporary textile, fiber, and quilt fine art. Since our beginnings in the 1980s as a juried exhibition of art quilts, VMOTA has shared the beauty of textile fine art with audiences from San Diego and around the world. We invite you to enjoy our exhibitions, attend our events, and learn with us about contemporary textile art and artists. Please come by in person to see what is currently on view, and we hope you will explore our website for images of current and past exhibitions, Q and A chats with artists, and engaging virtual tours. If you would like to schedule a docent-led tour of the museum, please contact our curatorial staff here. Tours are by appointment only.
Speaking of welcomes, VMOTA’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Katrina Bruins as the new Executive Director.
Katrina began the role effective December 16, 2023, with transition support from outgoing Interim Executive Director, Elaine Himelfarb. As Executive Director, Katrina, will manage all day-to-day operations for VMOTA as well as drive fundraising programs, marketing, and community engagement initiatives. “As a native of San Diego, I’m deeply thrilled to lead one of the premier international venues for contemporary art quilts and textiles,” says Katrina.
Katrina brings extensive non-profit leadership experience to VMOTA. She has a strong background in program administration, leadership, human resources, and operations. She previously excelled in a leadership position for an international border shelter managing a team of over 100 employees. Additionally, she has actively contributed to various non-profit organizations, ensuring the success of their fundraising galas and providing seamless programmatic and logistical coordination. Katrina is particularly skilled at building long-term strategic partnerships and known for her ability to connect with teams, volunteers, and supporters to create positive community impact and synergy.
“Katrina will bring experience, enthusiasm, great communication skills and fresh ideas to our organization. We feel very lucky to have found her and look forward to a long and successful tenure with her at the helm,” said Board President Carrie Frederick.
