ARTIST STATEMENT
In Oaxaca, Mexico, women intricately embroider flowers and dancing, ornate geometric patterns onto velvet to be fashioned into Tehuana skirts and into huipils, a traditional dress popularized by Frida Kahlo.
MATERIALS
Cotton, bamboo batting, polyester thread, textile paint
TECHNIQUES
Hand-painting, raw-edge appliqué, free motion machine stitching
