ARTIST STATEMENT

I planned to create some prints for the Mesa College “Dreams of a Mermaid” collection featuring seaweed, and came across a textile print by William Kilburn, made in 1788. I love the intricate details of Kilburn’s scientifically sketched seaweed, so recreated Kilburn’s design in watercolors and in a manner that can be repeated for fabric.
