Personal Expressions In Silk
From the artists of the San Diego Silk Guild
July 18 – September 13, 2020
In 2007, four silk artists came together in San Diego to form the San Diego Silk Guild to promote their art form through exhibits, workshops, and community outreach. Since that time, the guild has grown to over 35 members who fulfill this mission with their passion for silk painting.
Painting on silk is a unique art form that offers unlimited pathways to artistic expression. Wall hangings, quilted pieces, wax batiks, Japanese shibori, collage and multimedia work, three-dimensional pieces, painting, and beautiful wearables all reflect the variety of techniques used by silk artists. Using high quality silk fabric and dyes specially formulated for this material, silk artists find endless possibilities in transforming a white canvas into the finished work of art imagined by its creator.
This exhibit illustrates this diversity in silk art with each work offering a variation of technique that reflects the artist’s personal vision.
