Remnants
by Teri McHale
July 18th to October 4th
ABOUT THIS EXHIBITION
As an artist, Teri looks for inspiration in people and nature. While her earlier work focused on landscapes and portraits, she has now turned more to abstraction. Her eye is drawn to natural forms, including what she calls the “litter” or waste products of nature. In peeling bark and piles of dried leaves — what most people ignore or sweep away — she finds lasting beauty. Environmental topics, such as pollution and deforestation, are also important to her artistic vision.
In recent years, she has been developing her own methods of shaping 3D quilts. Each new work is a different challenge, depending on its size, shape, and integration of elements. As she strives to determine how far she can stretch the boundaries of fabric, she also stretches the public’s perception of quilting.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Teri McHale received her BFA with a major in printmaking from San Francisco Art Institute in 1995. She was drawn to printmaking for its diversity of techniques and applications and came to quilt-making later in her career. She finds quiltmaking equally as varied and exciting as printmaking, with many techniques yet unexplored.
Teri’s work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions around the United States, including QV 2018: Connections and the International Quilt Association exhibition in Houston.
