ARTIST STATEMENT

I drew both the quilting and overall ideas for this quilt multiple times using the Procreate app on my iPad.  Drawing it multiple times helped me refine my ideas and think about quilting as I started constructing the quilt.  I drew the design on paper using lines and a large compass to get the alignment correct for a partial mandala within the 15″ x 45″ space. I liked combining large- and small-scale motifs in the appliqué pieces and the quilting.  

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Materials: Hand dyed and commercial cotton fabrics,cotton thread, and batting. 

Techniques: Raw edge appliqué and free motion quilting.
