ARTIST STATEMENT
Jane Addams (1860-1935) was an American settlement activist, peace activist, reformer, social worker, sociologist, and advocate of women’s suffrage. As co-founder of Hull House, a settlement house located in Chicago, Illinois, she focused on the needs of children, women, immigrants, and workers. Addams was a vocal fighter for the oppressed and marginalized. She advocated for public health reform, universal suffrage, child labor laws, and world peace. One reason I chose her for my quilt is that I live in Chicago, where Hull House is located.
