ARTIST STATEMENT

I find women’s portraits painted by famous artists intriguing subject matters.  This work is based on Gustav Klimt’s famous painting of Adele Bloch-Bauer, completed in 1907. His work used gold leaf to create drama and a sense of decadence and richness. When I received the golden yellow card, I immediately thought of this work and wanted to try to reimagine it in fabric!

I hope you enjoy my interpretation of this regal woman, complete with Art Deco motifs, such as squares, circles, and evil eyes covering her dress.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Materials: Commercial cotton fabrics, some hand dyed fabrics by the artist, purchased golden braid used for the cuff of the garment.

Techniques: Machine pieced, machine fused, free motion quilting on a domestic machine.
