ARTIST STATEMENT

In a village marketplace on the outskirts of Oaxaca de Juàrez, this regal matriarch sells decorative leaves for the Dia de Muertos festivities — a day of celebration more than mourning. Her fierce countenance mirrors the spear-like leaves that frame her.
