ARTIST STATEMENT
A photo dated June 2, 1920, of six officers of the National Woman’s Party standing in Washington, D.C., holding a banner with a quote by Susan B. Anthony reminded me of quilters holding up a quilt for show and tell; so I designed a “Grandmother’s Flower Garden” quilt with the quote in the border. In the hexagons, you will find pictures of twenty women who have moved forward the cause of human rights in the last hundred years and the names of 142 others who have accomplished important firsts. The 162 “first ladies” and their accomplishments are listed under the fabric flap.
