ARTIST STATEMENT

The big question to myself was how to blend into my version of a flag quilt the idea that hesitation to act upon one’s convictions can prevent the flow of “divine floods of light and life” into our souls. My answer was to include back lighting that uses a non-repeating, generative animation sequence with range detectors. The colors displayed by my quilt come from a system of autonomy through an algorithm using math and machine logic. Although the colors shown come from a rigid rule structure, viewers have the ability to take part and ultimately change and enhance the colors presented, according to where they stand in relation to the quilt.
