ARTIST STATEMENT
The Prism Play exhibit celebrates color, and my assigned color is golden yellow. When black is added to golden yellow, the result is a spectrum of golden-brown tones, sometimes looking slightly green in some lights. I employed the golden yellow pure color on the plaster wall, using hand-dyed osnaburg to give a rough texture, contrasted against the brown tones of the smooth stones on the staircase. The golden light spilling down the stairs and the old man with a cane who has just climbed all those stairs gives the piece its name – Courage.
