What to Expect at The Art of Persian Textiles, on the Occasion of Yalda
Hands-On Art: Learn the Ghalamkari Technique
A vibrant and creative workshop, with instructors Shirin Aghdaie and Sasha Furlan, that celebrates the rich colors and textures of Yalda through a unique Persian artistic block printing technique. Participants use various pomegranates onto fabric, capturing the essence of Yalda in each design. This process combines Persian traditional block printing methods with the natural beauty of this fruit, allowing individuals to create personalized and seasonal textiles. Respect for Mother Earth is a fundamental value shared by Persian culture.
Collaborative Quilt Project: Symbolizing Unity and Warmth
Celebrate the tradition of gathering around the korsi by contributing to our Chehel Tekkeh, or “40 Piece Blanket.” Guided by Marty Ornish, create your own painted patchwork square using fabric remnants from previous projects. Together, we’ll sew these pieces onto a vibrant red base, symbolizing warmth, unity, and the spirit of Yalda. Join us in crafting a community masterpiece that honors the essence of the winter solstice!
Contemporary Persian Dance Performance
Experience the vibrant spirit of Yalda through a captivating contemporary Persian dance performance that celebrates the rich cultural heritage and traditions of this special night.
