ARTIST STATEMENT

Clara Foltz (1849-1934) was a leading suffragist and the first female lawyer in California. She accomplished many “firsts” in her life; some of them are written on her skirt. My art quilt celebrates her as a pillar of the community of all who fight for equality. “Others fought for your rights. Use them!” she repeatedly reminded her audiences.
