ARTIST STATEMENT
“Caribbean Crush” features a mosaic surface of overlapping scale-like shapes, each individually anchored in place with hand stitching which creates a work with strong tactile appeal. Through the surface design process plus additional minimal quilting, this work retains the defining characteristic of the quilt as a layered, stitched textile.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Polyester and cotton fabrics, polyester threads, and adhesive.
Hand stitched, machine pieced and appliquéd. I made this quilt of pairs of images, with one of each pair larger. The quiltting design is Athenian helmets.
