I chose Martha Wright as my subject because she was the sister of suffragist Lucretia Mott and was also active in women’s rights although not as well known as Mott. Along with several other women, Wright and her sister organized the historic 1848 Seneca Falls Convention. Wright was the secretary and didn’t think she could speak in public. But she overcame that fear and not only spoke but also was known for her quick wit and writing. She was serving as president of the National Woman Suffrage Association when she died in 1875.
