ARTIST STATEMENT
I fell in love with the work of late 19th/early 20th century Scottish architect, designer, and water colorist Charles Rennie Mackintosh when visiting Glasgow several years ago. Among his many beautiful designs is the famous Mackintosh rose. I began with my hand-drawn image of the rose, which I embellished with metallic paints. I then created numerous additional circles, which I hand-painted to “suggest” a rose. I then made a pattern with sweeping curves to create lots of movement. I placed the circles throughout the piece, so as to lead your eye upward. I wanted the piece to reflect joy, movement and precision, in honor of Rennie Mackintosh’s work.
