Definition: unpredictable or extravagant manifestations, action, or notion.
They do their own thing regardless of the vagaries of fashion.
This binational fashion and art installation transcends borders, fostering collaboration and cultural exchange through the medium of fashion. By bringing together a designer with visual artists and fashion enthusiasts from both sides of the border, “Vagary” aims to break down barriers and showcase the interconnectedness of our communities. This exhibit seeks to be a catalyst for cross-cultural understanding, promoting unity and shared creativity in the world of fashion.
Immerse yourself in an experience that goes beyond tradition through this fusion of diverse design aesthetics. Fashion and design are closely intertwined, and they share a symbiotic relationship in the world of aesthetics and creativity. The designs in this exhibit incorporate elements of Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and a variety of textiles including velvet, brocade, faux fur, denim, and diverse knit fabrics. The color pallet of the garments is inspired by vintage, technicolor, independent film.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Olga Cecilia Sanchez is a distinguished fashion designer with an extensive background in both the creative and business aspects of the industry. She holds an Associate Arts Degree in Fashion Design and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business from San Diego State University and Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, respectively. These academic credentials have equipped her with a unique blend of artistic talent and business acumen, enabling her to navigate the fashion industry with both creativity and strategic insight.
Throughout her career, Olga has garnered extensive experience in fashion, costume, textile, and design. Her talent and innovative approach to fashion earned her an invitation to participate in the inaugural Fashion Week San Diego as a binational designer, highlighting her cross-border influence and appeal. Olga’s designs have graced numerous prestigious fashion shows, including events at La Jolla and The Escondido Art Center, where her work has been met with critical acclaim and admiration from industry insiders and fashion enthusiasts alike.
Olga’s creations have been exhibited in some of San Diego’s most esteemed cultural institutions, showcasing her versatility and artistic vision. Her designs have been displayed at the Timken Museum of Art, the Aerospace Museum, The Prado, and during San Diego Design Week, underscoring her prominence in the local art and fashion scenes. These exhibitions reflect her ability to blend fashion with art, creating pieces that are not only stylish but also culturally significant and thought-provoking.
Olga’s international travels to Spain, France, Morocco, India, and Hong Kong have profoundly influenced her design work, infusing her collections with a rich tapestry of global cultures and aesthetics. Her collaboration with the renowned designer Zandra Rhodes for an exhibit at the Children’s Museum in San Diego further exemplifies her industry connections and expertise. Olga also played a pivotal role in bringing Zandra Rhodes to Cecut, where she lectured and translated about her illustrious 50-year career in fashion and textile design, sharing invaluable insights from her journey in the fashion world. This collaboration and her global experiences exemplify Olga’s dedication to blending artistic vision with cultural and professional enrichment.
