ARTIST STATEMENT

Contemplating the violet color card, I decided to try something less representational. During the past couple of years, through the on and off periods of isolation, I took advantage of a lot of online art quilting lectures, exhibits, and classes. By far my favorite class was Lisa Walton’s “Fantastic Fusion.” She’s a fun teacher, and the technique of fusing, slicing and dicing, and fusing again makes it a lot of fun to do. I decided to use it for this piece. The challenge became how to create visual interest, texture, and movement. 

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Materials: Commercial cotton prints, cotton batting, and cotton quilting threads.  

Techniques: Raw-edge fusing using “Fantastic Fusion” technique, free motion quilted on domestic machine.
