Violent Violet

ARTIST STATEMENT

Violet is not a color I ordinarily use in my art, and although the word seems to refer to flowers, I imagined a stormy sky with its power and beauty. I love turbulent weather (from a safe distance), and I let the shades and tones of violet speak in an artistic manner to create a tornado. 

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Materials: Commercial cottons, felt batting, rayon, and cotton thread.       

Techniques: Fabric collage and quilting stitches.
