ARTIST STATEMENT
My work focuses on endangered species and animal-human interactions. Many of our most magnificent endangered species are veterans in the war against encroachment on (and political upheavals in) their territories, hunting for their body parts, and the battle against changing climate. For my Veteran series this inspired me to use war surplus fabric, a damaged tarp, linen, cheesecloth, and hand embroidery to express both the toughness of their battle and their fragility.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Linen, old tarp, army blanket, cheesecloth, perle cotton thread, and fabric paint.
Drawing, painting, free motion quilting, and hand embroidery.
