ARTIST STATEMENT

Valley View is derived from a photograph by Rick McGrath and used with his permission. Yosemite Valley is one of the most visited national parks in the US, and this quilt was an attempt to capture the grandeur of the mountains and meet the challenge of capturing the reflections in the water as well as the transparency of rocks beneath the surface. This quilt was selected as the “Directors Choice” award at the 2024 Road to California show. 

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Materials: Hand-dyed cottons and commercial batiks.

Techniques: Raw edge fused and machine quilted.
