Sunrise Not the Start of Activity

ARTIST STATEMENT
A dramatic daybreak sky is emphasized against shadowed trees and distant hills. However, sunrise is not the beginning of activity for all creatures. The owl added to a foreground tree is ready to retire for the day, after a night of hunting for dinner.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Piecing, I also painted the sunset highlights on the lake.
Cotton fabrics for sunset, trees, mountains, lake and owl. The tree leaves were made using black lace.
