ARTIST STATEMENT
The process of resist dyeing with indigo seems perfect to me for the theme of Inside Out. When the fabric is immersed in the dye vat it appears green. It is only when you pull it out into the air that the oxygenation turns the color blue. The parts of the fabric that are folded or clamped away from the dye create a pattern that is allowed to come out after the dye has set. In this piece the image of the moon appears to be floating in the water and is reflected in the stone as if it were able to “come out and dance.”
