ARTIST STATEMENT
At the end of a multi-day backpack in the Denali National Park backcountry, we walked several miles down the Savage River Valley along the river bar out to the park road. Along the length of the valley, a line of tall willows grew and supported several large messy magpie nests. Each nest was protected by a magpie pair who commented loudly as we walked by. I constructed this “carousel” type book to show just how complex the willows were and how persistent the magpies were.
