ARTIST STATEMENT

Topaz Concentration Camp, also known as Central Utah Relocation Camp was located 17 miles from the town of Delta and 140 miles from Salt Lake City. The Camp opened on September 11, 1942 and closed on October 11, 1945. There were over 8,000 internees living in Topaz. The Camp consisted of 42 blocks. Each block held 12 barracks. The barracks were 120’ by 20” and were divided into six sections. Each block had a mess hall, latrine, washing, and laundry facilities and recreation center.
