ARTIST STATEMENT

As we depend on goods shipped from all over the world, container ships get monstrously large, burning massive amounts of fuel, and causing immediate ecological harm when accidents occur. This piece shows an actual ship which caught fire in Sri Lanka just as I was beginning to depict them. The fire spewed poisonous chemicals, toxic clouds, and literally tons of plastic pellets (being transported as raw material) into the sea, all to feed our desire for consumer goods.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Wool, mylar, cotton.

Handwoven, discontinuous brocade.
