Mama’s Purple Couch

ARTIST STATEMENT

When I was seventeen, my mother bought a huge purple couch. She loved purple!  That purple couch held the place of honor in our family room.  I chose the blue-violet card to challenge myself with a color palette I didn’t use regularly, but as I worked on the piece, I kept remembering that couch.  I think all the shades of blue violet were represented on the couch, either in the fabric design or the things that ended up between and on its soft cushions; books and clothing, newspapers and food, anything could have landed there!  What started out for me as a color challenge turned into a happy walk down memory lane.  And… I think some purple might show up in another quilt! 

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Materials: Fabric, tulle, thread. 

Technique: Curved piecing.
