Magenta California

ARTIST STATEMENT
Geographical maps have always interested me. My interpretation of California's geography was both fun and, at times, challenging. Collecting the magenta-colored fabrics was indeed part of the challenge. When I started to create my map, I realized I needed more textured shades to achieve my vision. That's when I realized the back of some of the fabrics worked perfectly and gave me the texture I needed. The other challenge was designing the map so it would be fairly accurate and fit on top of a 15″ x 45" base. Graphed paper and interfacing were the answer to the construction. All in all, it was a very enjoyable project.
