ARTIST STATEMENT

Haiti was once called the ‘Pearl of the Antilles’.  This quilt was inspired by the love I still feel for my country even though Haiti faces so many problems and challenges. When I begin making a quilt, I think a lot before I come up with a design. It’s not only the design, but the colors, the fabrics, what pieces are necessary to create that design. But it’s the colors – they are the most important.

Nan tan lontan, yo te rele Ayiti ‘Perle des Antilles’. Mwen te enspire fè tablo sa a pa lanmou mwen toujou santi pou peyi mwen an, menmsi Ayiti gen anpil pwoblèm ak defi.
