ARTIST STATEMENT

This was the first piece in this series. It was the beginning of my experimenting with this new technique I had developed in transferring paint to organza. I learned a lot by trial and error. Actually, I painted each layer of the truck: rusted grill, chrome, and body of the car on separate pieces of parchment paper. Each layer was then transferred onto separate pieces of organza and cut out like paper dolls. After which they were collaged together with Mistyfuse® from background up to foreground.

The reason for painting them separately was so that I could sweep my brush across the surface in one stroke thereby avoiding starts and stops in breaking up the detailed surface.

Since this piece, I now apply the different layers of painted parchment to one piece of organza avoiding raw edges and bulk. It may sound complicated but when taking a class from me it’s all intuitive and user friendly.
