ARTIST STATEMENT

Lush, curvaceous, and sensuous, irises are indeed an eyeful. The sinuous shapes and color variations of the iris, together with my assigned card for the color violet, were the immediate inspiration for this art quilt. My own photos of gorgeous blue irises provided the source to make patterns for each blossom, using a variety of fabrics enhanced with paint and inkThe darkest possible violet was chosen for the background to make the flowers pop. Close machine stitching on each petal really brought the composition to life.
