ARTIST STATEMENT
Having Flint (as my hometown) become a national landmark for poisoned water, poverty, and helplessness, I was deeply upset. I have so many friends and family members there who have worked and lived in such a way as to make it a place to be proud of. Soon after the lead poisoning of the water became public, I took this piece of African fabric and created a sort of blood river down the middle with these hand painted “chains” of yukata cotton all around. The quilting is a transcription of “The Fall of the Tower of Babel,” by Cornelis Anthonisz.
