ARTIST STATEMENT
“Color Grid” is an exploration of color and value. My approach to design is improvisational and intuitive, with each decision about color and line influencing the next. I started with small improv compositions and a few guidelines. For example, each one has white and black somewhere in the square. These colorful designs appear to float on a gridded background composed of neutral colors and black lines. The final touch is irregularly spaced vertical stitched lines that bring everything together.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Cotton fabric, batting, and variegated thread.
