ARTIST STATEMENT
Arizona has some spectacular sunsets, and in addition to being called the Grand Canyon State, it is also known as the Sunset State. A few days after my father died, I took this photo of a particularly brilliant sky filled with illuminated clouds against a saguaro cactus visible from my backyard. It felt like he was speaking to me through the glorious colorful sky.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Raw edge applique mapped from a photograph that I took behind my house in Arizona.
Commercial cottons, fusible, and several colors of thread to bleed edges into the next color.
