ARTIST STATEMENT

I have completed many drawings and prints of feathers found near my house, so I was inspired to try making a large one in fabric. I raw-edge appliquéd a feather on top of a striped background made using the “Intriguing Interleave” quilting technique I learned from Mel Beach in 2021. I auditioned my ideas using the Procreate iPad application to get an idea of how it would look before cutting too much fabric. I used both rulers and free-motion techniques for the quilting.

Materials: Hand dyed and commercial cotton fabrics 

Technique: Interleave quilting, raw edge appliqué, ruler quilting, free motion quilting
