ARTIST STATEMENT
In Spring 2021, Austin suffered a devastating 5-day hard freeze. Luckily, I didn’t lose power or water, but most of the area was affected. When temperatures began to rise above freezing, I walked around my neighborhood taking photographs of the centers of the dead sago palms. I was fascinated by the differences in texture and color, and “Black Spring” was an improvisational response to the devastation.

Commercial cotton fabric, wool/cotton batting, and polyester thread.
Machine-pieced, and machine-quilted (sit down longarm quilting machine).
