ARTIST STATEMENT

I took a series of photos of these Aeonium succulents outside the lobby of the Monterey Plaza Hotel in downtown Monterey, California. They were the largest succulents I had ever seen! Looking at my color card they were the perfect hue of green for this project. I cropped the image for the correct dimensions and blew up the succulent so it was off centerAs I make a lot of rawedge collage quilts, my challenge was how to portray the light edge along each leaf. Talking to a friend, we came up with using bias tape. It was the perfect solution to define each of the leaves and hide some of those raw edges.
