ARTIST STATEMENT

This quilt assemblage was conceived on January 4, 2022 as I lay in the cradle of the CT Scanner with a laser whirring around my body, dye flowing into my arm and a disembodied computerized voice saying, “Now, inhale and hold your breath… and now, you may breathe”. All in preparation for a catheter ablation at the end of the month. The resulting scan was used to create the heart quilt, embellished with handmade barbed wire to express angina. I traced around my body to create the silhouette quilt, positioned as I was laying during the scan. My EKG and hand-dyes makeup the background quilt.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Cotton, silk, batik, acrylic felt, cotton batting, various thread, jeweler’s wire

Hand dyed, traced and tinted, laser printed, hand finished, twisted, wrapped, machine pieced, machine quilted
