ARTIST STATEMENT

Blue-violet is my favorite colorI was drawn to this 15 by 45-inch format, which is such an interesting and challenging space to work in. Thinking vertically, an image of my arm with a needle and thread in hand popped into my mind. I am left-handed, and my hand has played such an important part in my life, from ASL signing with my deaf parents as my first language, to my career as an illustrator and letterer, and of course sewing and quilting. In sewing, hand-work has always been my favorite. So, this quilt pays homage to the origin of what we do, sewing with a needle and thread!

Materials: Commercial and hand-dyed cotton fabric, DMC embroidery thread, cotton batting, Superior’s Omni quilting thread.
