ARTIST STATEMENT
As a child I was always drawn to new roads, trails, and paths. I wanted to continue my journey because there was the unknown mystery regarding what was around the next bend, and I wanted to see it. Even as an adult the curiosity continues. Avoiding highways whenever possible, I chose the smaller indirect roads that meander through unfamiliar and surprising visual adventures. In the “Byways” series I created a direction of movement and then interjected a change from the expected.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
Hand-dyed cotton fabric, commercial black fabric.
Hand-dyed fabric, freely cut lines and shapes assembled with an improvisational approach, machine pieced and machine quilted.
