ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece is part of the series “La mona se viste como quiere” (The doll dresses as she pleases). This character has a body like a saguaro. Saguaros, like many desert plants, develop thorns that allow them to capture water to survive the extreme conditions of their environment. Likewise, many women lacking resources and doing exhausting work, have to develop ways of resistance that sometimes make them harsh and difficult to embrace.
Esta pieza forma parte de la serie “La mona se viste como quiere.” Este personaje tiene un cuerpo parecido al de un sahuaro. Los sahuaros, como muchas plantas del desierto, desarrollan espinas que les permiten capturar agua para sobrevivir a las condiciones extremas de su entorno. Asimismo, muchas mujeres, en condiciones de carencia y trabajo agotador, tienen que desarrollar formas de resistencia que a veces las hacen duras y difíciles de aceptar.
