ARTIST STATEMENT

In the making of “Royalty,” I was determined to use only fabric I had on hand and my own hand-dyed fabrics. Even though I was working improvisationally and intuitively, I created the large circles intending them to be “heads,” as in “Best Friends” and realized I was creating a series. I was spending my days of isolation playing with fabric and design, and I continued to create entities to keep me company! The “royal” purple ombre fabrics were made in an on-line workshop with Malka Dubrowsky. I love the way they create a “glow” through the use of value.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Commercial and hand-dyed cotton fabric, wool/cotton batting, and polyester thread.

Machine-pieced, and machine-quilted (sit down longarm quilting machine).
