ARTIST STATEMENT

I chose to interpret illumination as knowledge and education. I used scraps from the kids’ quilts who participated in Vision’s classes with third graders from Dewey Elementary School as a base layer. On the next layer, I created grids of stiffened threads held together and embellished them with “knots in the air” technique.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Fused scraps, stiffened embroidery strings, and threads stiffened with glue.

Fused scraps. Grids created on a wooden frame with the “stitches or knots in the air” technique.
