ARTIST STATEMENT
As the sun sets, a whole fresh macrocosm comes alive. Bushes, vines, and plants that absorb the sun by day suddenly burst forth in full bloom, emitting scintillating fragrances. These sweet smelling scents attract nocturnal pollinators. Alluring white or bright flowers become jewels in the night sky. The charisma of the sunset invites one to pause and absorb this ambrosial bounty.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
The background and trees were painted using Derwent watercolor ink blocks onto Moda white Grunge fabric. The color was set with an aloe vera gel solution. The background was free-motioned quilted to bring the sunset to life. An iridescent medium was gently brushed on to add a slight sparkle to the scene. The flowers and trees were drawn and colored with watercolor pencils onto PFD Kona organic cotton and then fused to the sky. The flowers and trees were thread sketched to highlight their features with cotton and polyester variegated superior threads.
